Viva Voce are happening. That's very basic present tense for anyone who's interested in hard rocking lo-fi music, interpreted as "perfectly skewed pop". Viva Voce Loves You isn't exactly breaking new ground for the band but is more of an introduction for the uninitiated. Loves You is a collection of the band's celebrated songs from their first three hard-to-find, import-only albums (2003's Lovers Lead The Way, 2004's The Heat Can Melt Your Brain and 2006's Get Your Blood Sucked Out.)
Band members, Kevin and Anita Robinson, are married and one of the sweetest things about Viva Voce is that it seems to celebrate the complexity of a relationship, the house they live and work in and their obvious need to experiment. Like all good music, Viva Voce produce a sound that is at once familiar and explorative. With just the right sprinkling of kitsch it won't be long before you hear their lo-fi musings spruiking the latest sci-fi technology that may or may not be irresistibly slim and sexy. Merge says: "Get into them before marketing does."
